22. February 2021
Are you missing beer festivals, supporting good causes, learning funky beer trivia, toasting with friends, and traveling to the UK?
Here is a quick fix – Yvan De Baets of Belgium’s Brasserie de la Senne and Kris Butler will celebrate the influence of English beer around the world at a virtual beer tasting this Friday, February 26 US Eastern Time 2:30-4:00pm via Zoom. (7:30pm UK; 8:30pm Europe)
Any beer you get will do – Yvan De Baets and Kris Butler will walk through a structured tasting and then explore how England has historically influenced beer around the world. For example, which English ship had to cut its journey to the new world short when it ran out of beer? Which colonial US president’s home brewing recipes are in the Boston Public Library? Part tasting, part silly conversation, part history- all to support a good cause.
Your £10 (~$14USD) donation supports the Charlbury Beer Festival. Charlbury is a lovely town just north of Oxford England, and its event normally raises at least £20,000 a year for many good causes in the UK and abroad. What makes it great, beyond properly cellared Real Ale served in half pints in actual glass? (Also gin and cider) Live music, events for children (like snail races!), a culture tent with worldly speakers, incredible food, plenty of room to picnic on a genuine cricket field, the World Aunt Sally Championship.
Last year it was cancelled and this year is uncertain (currently scheduled for June 26). Grab a beer or five and sip with us! Details on the website: www.CharlburyBeerFestival.org
This link takes you to an EventBrite site that offers tickets and allows for larger donations as well. (The zoom link will be sent shortly before the event begins once you register; no need to have zoom installed to join.).
